Dubai Marina’s two primary beaches are The Beach and The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). Both are family-friendly, with activities for children ranging from inflatable water parks to miniature trains and even camel rides, yet offer plenty for adults, too. Relax in a cabana between dips in the sea; top up your tan during a game of beach volleyball; take to the waves on a jet ski or wakeboard; or browse the waterside markets. When it’s time for refreshments, be seated at any number of chic restaurants and bars offering tempting fare with Emirati flair. Prefer to swim in a pool rather than the sea? Jumeirah Living Marina Gate’s very own 23-metre infinity pool, fringed by foliage and overlooking the ocean, is the perfect place to cool off.

See the tallest block

You don’t have to be a lover of modern architecture to appreciate the magnificence of what’s colloquially known as ‘the tallest block’. The tallest block of skyscrapers in the world, each of the buildings here measures over 300m, from the Princess Tower - 414m - to the comparatively small Cayan Tower, at 310m. These are residential blocks and therefore inaccessible, but it’s worth taking a camera to appreciate the sheer scale of this record-breaking, glass-encased development from below.
